Privacy note
If you sign up for the Fish Here newsletter we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. We use them only to send the Fish Here weekly email about Sydney fishing spots.
Your details are stored with our email provider, Resend, which may process data outside Australia. We don't sell or share your details with anyone else.
Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops further emails. To have your details deleted, reply to any newsletter email and ask.
If you send feedback using the Feedback button, we store your rating, category and message, plus the page or spot you were viewing (if you leave that box ticked), your browser type, the date and time, and a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address to stop spam. Your email address is optional and only used if you'd like a reply. Feedback is kept privately with our hosting provider, Vercel, is never shown publicly, and is used only to improve Fish Here. To have your feedback deleted, email kaindlbf@gmail.com.
If you upload a photo of a fishing spot, we store the photo plus the optional name and caption you give, the date and time you submitted it, and a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, which we use to stop spam and abuse. You must confirm the photo is yours and that Fish Here may display it.
Photos often contain hidden data (EXIF) such as the GPS location, the time the photo was taken and the camera model. When you upload, we read the GPS location and the time it was taken only to check whether the photo was taken at that spot (within about 500 m). We keep those details privately with your submission so we can review it. The copy we publish has all EXIF data removed, including GPS. Publicly we show only your name, your caption, the date it was taken and, if it matched, a "taken here" badge. We delete the original file you uploaded as soon as we've made that copy.
Uploaded photos are kept in private storage with our hosting provider, Vercel, which may process data outside Australia. Nothing is shown publicly until we review and approve it. To have a photo removed, email kaindlbf@gmail.com and tell us which spot it is for and roughly when you uploaded it.
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. It is cookieless and collects only anonymous, aggregated page views.
The map uses OpenStreetMap tiles and spot weather comes from Open-Meteo. Both are loaded from third-party servers. The site sets no tracking cookies.
